After exploring Ait Ben Haddou, proceed to Ouarzazate, where you have the opportunity to visit the famous movie studios. As the first day of your 6-day tour unfolds, enjoy dinner and an overnight stay at the hotel.
After enjoying breakfast and exploring the Taourirt Kasbah, we set out towards Zagora. Our journey takes us across the Anti Atlas Mountains, navigating the Tizi n Tinifift pass, which reaches a height of 1,600 meters. As we enter the Draa Valley on a scenic track, you’ll encounter various Berber villages and kasbahs nestled within its landscapes. Passing through the towns of N’kob, Tarazine, and Alnif, we’ll then embark on another track, uncovering hidden villages until we reach the captivating Gorges of Mharech. Notably, many of these sections are part of the route taken during the Dakar Rally. Conclude the day with a delightful dinner and an overnight stay in a charming Riad.
Embarking on the trail of the Dakar Rally, we traverse through solitary villages, captivating epiphytic plants, dry river beds known as wadis, oases, and the enchanting Ouzina dunes. Following this mesmerizing route, we explore Berber villages before heading towards the majestic Erg Chebbi, home to the tallest dunes in Morocco. Enjoy a unique lunch experience with a Berber family, relishing Berber pizza.
Upon reaching Merzouga, situated near the towering dunes of Erg Chebbi, we’ll check into the hotel. After leaving unnecessary belongings behind, we eagerly anticipate the arrival of the dromedaries. Riding them, we’ll venture into the desert as the sun sets, making our way to the desert camp nestled amidst the high dunes of Erg Chebbi. Here, we’ll spend the night in a cozy desert camp, indulging in dinner and a peaceful overnight stay beneath the stars.
Rising before dawn, we eagerly witnessed the magical sunrise before returning to the hotel on our trusty dromedaries. Following a refreshing shower and a hearty breakfast, our adventure continued as we set out to explore the vast Erg Chebbi, an extension of the sandy desert housing Morocco’s towering Great Dune, standing at over 250 meters in height. Our journey traced a track that once formed part of the historic Paris-Dakar route, with the backdrop of mountains bordering Algeria.
During our exploration, we paused at the Tissardmin oasis and engaged with nomads, gaining insights into their way of life and customs. Another stop took us to a panoramic point, offering a breathtaking view of the entire Erg Chebbi. Our journey continued to Khamlia, a village with roots in Mali, where we indulged in a soothing cup of tea while being treated to a delightful concert of Gnawa music.
Returning to the lodge, we enjoyed a leisurely lunch, and the afternoon unfolded with free time to climb the dunes and savor a romantic sunset. The evening promised a rich cultural experience, starting with a Berber spectacle featuring traditional reels. The day concluded with a delightful dinner and a restful overnight stay at the hotel.
Today’s journey promises to be the longest as we set forth towards Rissani, the birthplace of the Alawite dynasty and Morocco’s inaugural imperial city. Our route takes us through Erfoud, renowned for its abundance of black stone and marine fossils. If you wish, we can make a stop at a fossil factory for an intriguing visit. Continuing our exploration, we’ll reach the lush Palmeral of Tafilalet.
The adventure unfolds with a visit to the picturesque Todra Gorges, followed by our arrival at the enchanting Dades Valley. As the day winds down, dinner and a restful overnight stay await us at the hotel.
As we bid farewell to the valley, our journey follows the scenic route of the ‘Thousand Kasbahs,’ leading us through the breathtaking valley of Roses. Our next stop is the palm grove of Skoura, home to the most renowned kasbah in the region. From here, we commence our return journey to Marrakesh.
