Arrival time of your flight
For Atlas Trekking you need to prepare as you would for walking in any mountain region; it can be warm and sunny during the day but the weather in the mountains can quickly change from sunshine to snow and cold winds (autumn through late spring). Please do not leave any rubbish behind you; carry out what you carry in.
Atlas Treks are tailored to match the season and your level of fitness. You have the choice of basing yourself in Berber Guesthouses, from where you can take daily walks, or you can Atlas Mule Trek for 2+ days. On mule treks you usually have the choice of staying in Berber Guesthouse/with families or wild camping in 2-person tents. In addition to regular packing, here is a Check List for Atlas Trekking:
We will await you at the airport by our driver who will transfer you to your accommodation, a typical Riad in the medina, the medieval walled city of Marrakech. The rest of theevening is free for you to explore exotic Marrakech. Night in a riad.
After breakfast, transfer from Marrakech, first crossing the High Atlas Mountains via the dramatic Tizin’Test Pass (2100m), then pausing for lunch on the way, before arriving at the southern town of Taliouine (1063m)in good time for your evening meal. The rest of the day is free for you to explore Taliouine, famous for its safran production and formerly home to one of the most important kasbahs of the infamous El Glaoui family.
Enjoy a gentle introduction to your trek by walking from Taliouine along the banks of the OuedZagmouzen, passing by a succession of small villages, to reach Akhfamane (1250m) where we will camp for the night.
Walk from Akhfamane to Ti n’Iddr (1684m) by following a trail that leads further up valley through the ancient village of Mazwad (1441m). Beyond Mazwad, the valley narrows to a gorge and meanders, more steeply, upwards into the mountains. Arrive at the beautiful village of Ti n’Iddr with its striking kasbah, mosque and agadir where we will camp for the night.
Walk from Ti n’Iddr to Tegragra (2650m) by following the bank of the Assifn’Wamrane Valley through an increasingly striking and isolated landscape. First, we climb steeply through the dramatic village of Atougha, perched on the hillside against a vertiginous mountain backdrop, its terraced fields unfolding below, before arriving at the stunning summer pastures of Tegragra (2650m) where we will camp for the night close to a water source. In this area shepards still practice a seasonal migration between higher and lower regions called Trans humanza.
Today there are optional ascents of both Jebel Siroua (3305m) and Jebel Guiliz (2905m) with a descent along the Assifn’Aïtou‘Byal Valley to Waterfall Camp (2400m). From Tegragra, we either climb steeply to the summit of Jebel Sirwa before descending to Waterfall Camp, perhaps rising to a second summit, that of Jebel Guiliz, en route Otherwise, we simply descend directly from Tegragra to Waterfall Camp where we camp for the night close by the river.
We walk down valley from Waterfall Camp through the delightful villageof Tizgui (2200m), stopping to visit its fortified granary, the most astounding in the region, before continuing to the surreal rock formations and verdant palm trees of Tislit Gorge where we camp for the night.
We head on to the village of Tislit, which lends its name to the gorge, then across wide open terrain through a patchwork of agricultural fields and wild flowers to the village of Souk Larba (1675m). Transfer from Souk Larba via the panoramic route to your accommodation in Ait Ben Haddou. About 4 hours driving.
After breakfast you will have time to visit the UNESCO monument Ksar of Ait Ben Haddou. After that we will follow a dramatic scenery of changing landscapes before arriving to the Tiz-n-Tichka Pass at 2260 m and drive further to Marrakech. The evening is free for you to continue exploring Marrakech. Overnight in a charming and typical Riad
The last and additional night in Marrakech gives the opportunity to follow own ideas for sightseeing and shopping in its magnificent medina. We provide you a stay at a Riad in the medina of Marrakech.
