Marrakech / Fes
6/7 am ( depends on which season)
We’ll start your adventure by picking you up from your accommodation in Marrakech, whether it’s a Riad or a hotel nestled in the heart of the Medina. Our destination: Ouarzazate, a historical caravan town situated along the silk and salt route in the eastern foothills of the Atlas Mountains.
As we embark on this journey, the first leg takes us through the awe-inspiring landscape of the High Atlas Mountains. Passing by the Berber town of Taddert, we’ll follow a winding road that leads us to the Tizi n’Tichka pass, where we’ll pause to soak in the breathtaking panoramic views.
Our next stop is the renowned Kasbah Ait Benhaddou, located just 30 kilometers from Ouarzazate. This kasbah stands as one of the most captivating red earth castles that adorn the ancient road of the Kasbahs, earning its distinction as a UNESCO World Heritage site. After exploring its intriguing charm, we’ll continue our journey to Ouarzazate, traversing the enchanting “Road of the Thousand Kasbahs” – a route that unveils the fascinating landscape of these unique “sandcastles.”
Start your day with a delightful breakfast at the hotel, and then set off towards the enchanting Dades Valley. Your first stop will be the remarkable Kasbah of Amerhidil, nestled in the Skoura Oasis. Here, you’ll be captivated by the vast Palm Groves and stunning vistas of the Atlas Mountains. As you travel, you’ll pass through several small towns, providing glimpses of traditional farming methods in action.
Our journey continues, taking a pause at Kalaat Mgouna, famously known as “the rose’s city” due to its association with roses. This town hosts an annual festival during the rose harvest in May, adding a unique charm to the region. Finally, we’ll reach Dades Valley, a significant town spanning the Dades River and serving as your home for the evening.
Begin your day with a satisfying breakfast at the hotel before embarking on a journey from the Dades Valley to Tinghir and the Todra Gorges – Morocco’s highest oasis valley gorge. Marvel at the panoramic views of ancient mud-built Berber villages perched on the valley slopes. Upon reaching the Gorges, take a stroll beneath the impressive 300-meter-high red cliffs, a popular spot for rock climbers pursuing their favorite sport.
Continue the adventure by heading to Erfoud, renowned for its fossilized marbles, and then proceed to Rissani, once known as Sijilmassa and the foundation of the Alaouite dynasty, the current ruling family in Morocco. Experience the traditional atmosphere of this Moroccan town, where most women are veiled and men wear hoods, reflecting a deeply rooted cultural ambiance.
Next, set off for Merzouga, where a relaxing night awaits you at the hotel. This peaceful rest will leave you fully recharged for the upcoming Sahara adventure on the following day.
Savoring a night beneath the starlit sky in the Sahara Desert is a rare and unforgettable experience, unlike anything else you might encounter worldwide. Extending it to two nights allows you to leisurely explore the desert, fully embracing the traditional customs of the local tribes. Today’s adventure involves delving into the wonders of the Erg Chebbi desert dunes, the largest in Morocco.
Take the morning to wander through Merzouga before gearing up for an unforgettable night beneath the stars. Our journey includes a visit to the Gnawa people, originally brought from Sudan as slaves, offering you a chance to immerse yourself in their music and lifestyle. Marvel at the panoramic view beyond the Erg Chebbi sand dunes. Later, we’ll visit nomadic families in their tents, sipping tea and discovering a new perspective on life.
In the afternoon, meet your camel and embark on a trek through the desert, traversing the red dunes until the horizon is a canvas of sand and sky. The tranquility is occasionally interrupted by the gentle snorts of the camels and the soft rhythm of their steps on the sand. Pause to witness the sunset, and as dusk settles, arrive at your camp. Take in the beauty of the sand dunes and the surrounding landscapes before indulging in a Moroccan dinner served under the stars by the campfire. Post-dinner, gather around the fire to enjoy typical Berber music, resonating with the beats of drums beneath the vast, star-studded sky.
If you have the desire to greet the dawn and witness the sun’s majestic ascent, painting the morning sky in cool shades of blue and casting enchanting shadows across the desert, your desert camp hosts will gladly rouse you early for this captivating experience. Don’t forget to capture those iconic moments for your social media feed!
After the sunrise spectacle, return to a local hotel offering a warm shower and a hearty breakfast to start your day. Following breakfast, embark on a scenic drive along the Ziz River, bordered by a stunning oasis adorned with palm trees and fortified Ksours (castles). The journey leads you to Midelt, a charming small town nestled in the heart of the Atlas Mountains, where you’ll take a break for lunch.
In the afternoon, continue your adventure, crossing the Middle Atlas Mountains en route to Fes. Prepare for a striking transformation in the landscape, as you encounter snow-capped mountains, cedar forests, and lush vegetation – a stark contrast to the arid and rocky terrains of the earlier part of the tour. Your Marrakech to Fes desert tour concludes in the early evening, and your driver will ensure you reach your riad or hotel in Fes.
We sincerely hope you’ve thoroughly enjoyed this journey with our team
