We’ll start your 4-day Marrakech Sahara tour by picking you up from your accommodation in Marrakech. As we embark on our journey, the High Atlas Mountains await, treating you to breathtaking landscapes while traversing the Atlas mountains through the Tizi N Tichka pass, a high and winding road reaching an elevation of 2260m. Pass through charming Berber villages nestled in verdant valleys until we reach the renowned Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This iconic location has served as the backdrop for numerous films, including Gladiator, Jewel of the Nile, Sahara, and Games of Thrones.
Our adventure continues to Ouarzazate, venturing through the captivating “Road of the Thousand Kasbahs,” reminiscent of fascinating sand castles. Along the way, we’ll make a stop at Kalaat Mgouna, also known as “the Rose City,” celebrated for its roses and hosting an annual festival during the rose harvest in May. Finally, we’ll reach Dades Valley, where you’ll spend the first night of your 4-day Marrakech Sahara tour.
After a delightful breakfast at the hotel, we’ll bid farewell to the Dades Valley and head towards Tinghir and the Todra Gorges, which stand as the highest oasis valley gorge in Morocco. Marvel at the panoramic views of ancient mud-built Berber villages perched above the valley. Once at the Gorge, take a stroll beneath the towering 300m high red cliffs, a favorite spot for rock climbers pursuing their preferred sport.
Our journey continues to Erfoud, renowned for its fossilized marbles, before descending to Merzouga. Here, you’ll meet your camel to embark on a trek through the desert, traversing the red dunes until all that surrounds you is sand and sky. The tranquil ambiance is occasionally interrupted by the gentle snorts of the camels and the soft rustle of their steps on the sand. Pause to witness the enchanting sunset before reaching your camp.
Upon arrival, you’ll be greeted with refreshing mint tea and cookies. Take some time to admire the vast sand dunes and the captivating landscapes. Prepare for a delightful Moroccan dinner served under the stars next to a crackling campfire. After dinner, gather around the fire to enjoy a traditional Berber music performance, with rhythmic beats from the drums echoing under the star-studded sky.
Embrace the opportunity to witness the sun’s majestic ascent as it embarks on another glorious day. If you find yourself waking at the break of dawn, settle comfortably on the sand dunes and marvel as the sunrise unfolds, casting hues of warmth across the dusty summer skies.
After this enchanting moment, we’ll make our way back to a local hotel, where a refreshing hot shower and a hearty breakfast await. Our journey continues towards Rissani, historically known as Sijilmassa and the birthplace of the Alaouite dynasty, the current ruling family in Morocco. Steeped in tradition, Rissani offers a glimpse into Moroccan culture with veiled women and hooded men.
We’ll then proceed towards Ouarzazate, passing through Alnif, Tazarine, Nkob, and Agdez. Enjoy the captivating sights of the Draa Valley, adorned with countless Berber Kasbahs and millions of palm trees. Our route leads us to Ouarzazate, often referred to as the “Hollywood of Africa.” This town boasts one of the largest film studios globally and has served as the backdrop for numerous Hollywood blockbusters and significant historical television programs, including renowned titles like Gladiator and Lawrence of Arabia. For enthusiasts of A Game of Thrones, Ouarzazate holds recognizable scenes from the series.
After a delightful breakfast at the hotel, our day kicks off with a visit to Taourirt Kasbah. Nestled on the outskirts of town, this former Glaoui residence is celebrated as one of Morocco’s most captivating kasbahs, boasting a rich history and architectural allure.
Following this cultural exploration, our journey takes an exciting turn as we venture outside the town to indulge in a private visit to the Atlas Corporation Studio. This renowned cinematographic center has played a pivotal role in blockbuster productions, such as Asterix and Cleopatre directed by Alain Chabat and the Oscar-winning Gladiator directed by Ridley Scott. The studio’s success can be attributed to its breathtaking landscapes, excellent infrastructure, welcoming locals, and cost-effective authorizations.
As we bid farewell to this cinematic haven, we commence our return journey to Marrakech, traversing the Atlas Mountains. The winding roads lead us through ever-changing scenery, vibrant valleys, and picturesque Berber villages perched on the hillsides. The Tizi’n Tichka Pass marks the pinnacle of our mountainous adventure, offering an opportunity for photos and a breath of fresh mountain air.
Our picturesque drive concludes as we arrive in Marrakech, where we bid you farewell and drop you off at your hotel, marking the end of your 4-day Sahara tour. We sincerely hope that you found joy and fulfillment in the experiences shared with our team!
