Overview : 3 Days from Agadir to Merzouga Desert

While it may not be the most common starting point for Sahara Desert excursions and involves a substantial 10-hour drive, coupled with a minimum of 3 days to thoroughly explore the destinations, the Agadir to Merzouga trip presents an ideal solution for those seeking a comprehensive desert experience.

Note: Due to the considerable distance covered during the journey to Merzouga, whether from Marrakech, Agadir, or Fes, anticipate a full day of extensive driving. We highly recommend considering a 4 to 5-day trip for a more relaxed and fulfilling experience.

Itinerary
3 Days from Agadir to Merzouga Desert

Day 1Agadir - Taroudant – Taliouine - Taznakht - Ouarzazate

Welcome to Morocco! Begin your journey from Agadir in the morning, with a captivating stop to explore the ancient ramparts of Taroudant city. Continue your adventure to Taliouine, renowned as the saffron-producing hub of Morocco, and visit the “Saffron Cooperative.” Proceed to the Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah, the largest Kasbah in Morocco, and marvel at the famous landmark. Located 30 kilometers from Ouarzazate, this intriguing red-earth castle is a UNESCO World Heritage site. We’ll also visit Ouarzazate, known as the “Hollywood of Africa,” boasting one of the largest studios and serving as a backdrop for numerous Hollywood blockbusters and historical TV programs, including Gladiator and Lawrence of Arabia. If you’re a Game of Thrones fan, you may recognize it from the series. Check into your Riad/Hotel for dinner and accommodation with breakfast.

Day 2Ouarzazate - Dades Gorge - Todra Gorge - Merzouga

After enjoying breakfast at the hotel, brace yourself for one of the most memorable moments of the Sahara desert tour. As we journey back through the captivating “Road of the Thousand Kasbahs,” witness the enchanting “sandcastles.” Our route takes us to Kalaat Mgouna, known as the “Roses city,” famous for its roses and the annual festival during the rose harvest in May. Continuing onward, we reach the Dades Valley and Tinghir, where a visit to Todra Valley unfolds panoramic views of ancient mud Berber villages perched above the valley. Explore the Gorge and stroll beneath the impressive 300m high red cliff, a haven for rock climbers. Our expedition then leads us to Erfoud and Rissani for lunch, followed by a journey to the village of Merzouga. Your camel awaits you for an hour’s ride, navigating the dune tops to reach tonight’s accommodation—a typical Berber camp with Bedouin-style tents adorned with Moroccan carpets to keep the sand at bay. Capture the magic of the Erg-Chebbi’s mysterious sand-sea with numerous photographs, and spend the night under the twinkling stars or, if preferred, in a traditional Berber nomad tent

Day 3Merzouga -Rissani - Alnif - Nkob - Agdiz - Taznakht - Taliouine - Agadir

Don’t miss the chance to witness the sunrise, painting the sky with its morning glory. If you’re an early riser, find a spot on the sand dunes, and marvel at the sunrise as it gracefully unfolds in the dusty summer skies. Upon returning to a local hotel, a warm welcome awaits you with a hot shower and a hearty breakfast. Next, we set out for Rissani, historically known as Sijilmassa, the birthplace of the Alaouite dynasty, Morocco’s ruling family. With veiled women and hooded men, Rissani exudes a deeply traditional Moroccan atmosphere. Our journey continues towards Agadir, passing through Alnif, Tazarine, Nkob, and Agdiz. Along the way, soak in the sights of the captivating Draa Valley adorned with countless Berber Kasbahs. The route leads to Taznakht, Taliouine, and concludes in Agadir after sunset.

As the 3-day Sahara desert tour from Agadir to Merzouga comes to a close, we sincerely hope you enjoyed this memorable journey with our team!
